ON Semiconductor Equipment Maintenance Section Manager (Etch) in South Portland, Maine


The Equipment Engineering Section Manager will be responsible for all activities, processes, improvements, and procedures in supportof semiconductor plasma etch, wet etch, and other related support tools .

This position requires the individual to possess a high technical skill level, (specifically electro-mechanical and plasma generation and delivery skills), as well as an engaging leadership style. The individual will be required to balance tactical everyday demands of a technician work force working in a busy wafer fab with the strategic demands of a site that is growing. The Section Manager should have a strong safety mindset and will be expected to instill this important site initiative to the entire etch team.

The Section Manager will work as part of a team of other equipment engineering section managers, each responsible for their own area of focus, and also supporting the needs of the other areas. The Section Manager will also work as part of a team with other disciplines on site including process engineering, facilities engineering, and manufacturing.

The Section Manager will drive knowledge of fundamental concepts and practices of electronics and microelectronics, FDC (fault detection classification) control concepts and 5S techniques.

  • TheSection Manager must be able to work and perform in a fast pace and demandingwork environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Tactical day today management of the plasma and wet etch tools/areas across a 4-shiftmanufacturing operation.

  • Strategicdirection to achieve improvements in key performance indices including ERMspend/MM, availability, scrap/mm, and safety.

  • Leadership of a 4-shift teamof diverse skill level technicians and assistant equipment engineers.

  • Professionaldevelopment for the technicians and assistant equipment engineers

  • Operate as the equipmentengineering technical resource for the plasma and wet etch tool platforms

  • Engage withpeers at other ON Semiconductor Wafer Fab Operations

  • Improvingengagement of technicians across all flights


  • Strong safety history.

  • Equipmentmaintenance leadership and management is preferred.

  • Demonstratedhistory of improving key performance metrics, moving the needle.

  • In depthknowledge of Predictive and Preventive Maintenance techniques.

  • FDCknowledge with Brookside or Fabguard knowledge preferred.

  • Trainedin technical problem solving techniques with DMAIC training preferred.

  • Technical expertise in thefollowing equipment platforms is preferred:

  • LAM plasma etch platforms (45SEs,45XLs, 45Alliance, 94SEs, 94DFMs, 96SEs, 96PTXs, DSIE)

  • Immersion wet bench technology(TELs)

  • Spray wet tool platforms

  • Demonstratedhistory of professionally developing a technical workforce.

  • Capableof working with and around chemicals (safety training is provided).

  • Strongmechanical aptitude


  • B.S.preferred in an electrical or mechanical discipline.
