ON Semiconductor Wide Band Gap Applications Technician in Muenchen, Delaware

The Application Technician will be responsible for both lab management and applications tasks within the wide bandgap application team and for the Munich PSG Lab. The work is split 70/30% between application technician activities and lab management.

The application technician position focuses around device testing and supporting of application design. The wide bandgap business unit is working with state of the art SiC and GaN products which require extensive testing often involving new test development. The application technician supports the application engineers in developing new test setups, support customers designs and device level testing. Device level tests include working with curve tracers, new test setups and various dynamic tests. Application development will focus around creating market relevant test units that mimic customer applications or help push new products to market.

Lab management work includes supervising the yearly auditing of the lab, calibration and maintenance of the PSG business units used equipment. Ordering parts, maintaining incoming samples that need to be tested. Be responsible for PR of new equipment, its setup and initial operation. Coordinate equipment use and implement lab rules and user training.


  • Provide technical expertise and customer support through test development, simulation, device testing and presentations

  • Support application engineering team with device testing, application design, layout and simulation

  • Maintenance of equipment and tools

  • Communication with vendors and equipment suppliers

  • Catalogue and register incoming and tested samples, maintain and setup a device test database

  • Lab maintenance and management, including user training, audit and calibration, tool usage and supply management

  • Support application development for wide bandgap devices

  • Education: engineering diploma or higher

  • Minimum of 8 years of lab and engineering experience

  • Excellent understanding of layout and application design tools (OrCAD, Altium, SPICE, etc)

  • Knowledge of various non-isolated topologies (buck, boost, buck-boost, SEPIC) and control methods.

  • Self-motivated team player with strong desire to achieve business unit goals.

  • Ability to work efficiently with other groups within the company.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
