ON Semiconductor’s Medical and Wireless Division is seeking an innovative and creative DSP Firmware Developer to join the Applied DSP team in our Waterloo office. We create a diverse set of products that demands an environment of constant learning, in a friendly and team-oriented atmosphere.

This position will involve primarily developing embedded software related to wireless communication features of our ultra-low power audio & wireless solutions. The ideal candidate for this position has a passion for embedded software development, interest and/or experience in wireless protocols & audio signal processing, good communication skills and the ability to work well independently and within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Build world class embedded software solutions for our DSP & wireless platforms, including:

  • System firmware development

  • Wireless protocol development

  • Audio codec implementation

  • Contribute to the design of our DSP & wireless platforms, software development tools and system architecture, particularly from an embedded software developer’s point-of-view

  • Providing technical content for end user documentation

  • Support for customer issues or requests

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably with specialization in embedded software, communications protocols or DSP

  • Up to 3 years of experience in embedded software development

  • Interest or experience with wireless protocols, especially Bluetooth low energy

  • Interest or experience with real-time implementation of DSP algorithms

  • Experience developing embedded software to quality-driven processes or standards

Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

  • Detail-oriented and quality conscious throughout development cycle

  • Strong embedded software development skills with experience in C and/or assembly language

  • Interest in audio and/or medical device applications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience with scripting languages, preferably Python

  • Experience with software tools such as Matlab for signal processing analyses, simulations and development would be an asset

  • Knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies would be an asset
